BACB BOARD OF DIRECTORS: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is holding nominations for openings on its Board of Directors. These Board members will serve one 3-year term with an option to be reappointed for a second 3-year term. Only nominations submitted by BCaBA and BCBA/BCBA-D certificants will be considered. Self-nomination is permitted.

About the BACB Board of Directors. The BACB serves a limited, but important role in the applied behavior analysis profession: operating three widely recognized certification programs and establishing related standards for its practitioners, all done through the lens of consumer protection. The BACB Board of Directors is the governing body of the BACB, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation. As such, directors are legally required to exercise various fiduciary duties in their oversight of the organization. Given the gravity of the Board’s responsibilities, it is no surprise that the current 11 directors have 178 collective years (avg.=16) of experience within the profession, and that two-thirds of them had prior experience serving on nonprofit boards of directors before joining the BACB’s board.

Nomination Requirements. Two positions are currently open for nomination:

Seat A (Master’s) – This seat must be filled by a master’s-level individual who has been certified as a BCBA for at least 5 years. It is preferred that the nominee is directly involved in behavior-analytic service delivery, has leadership experience, and has demonstrated service to behavior analysis professional associations.

Seat B (Doctoral) – This seat must be filled by a faculty member who has been certified as a BCBA/BCBA-D for at least 5 years. It is preferred that the nominee’s specialty area is outside of autism and developmental disabilities.

The BACB values diverse perspectives within the profession and on its Board of Directors; thus, we encourage nominations from members of underrepresented groups, as well as nominations of individuals who have some or all of the following characteristics:

  • have strong applied backgrounds
  • are from geographic regions that are not currently represented on the Board of Directors
  • have experience in practice areas that are not currently represented on the Board of Directors
  • are familiar with the history of the BACB and its certification programs

Only one submission per nominee is required. Multiple nominations will not affect the likelihood that a candidate will be chosen to run for a seat. Submitting this nomination does not guarantee that your nominee will be selected to run on a particular slate.

Before nominating an individual, you must confirm that they are willing to:

  • serve the minimum 3-year term (August 2025 to August 2028),
  • attend the annual Board of Directors meeting (typically in early August), and
  • attend additional Board of Directors meetings that are held often via videoconference as needed throughout the year.

Directors are also expected and encouraged to participate in additional ways, such as chairing and serving on committees.

Submitting a Nomination. Your nomination must be submitted using the following form. It must include all of the information requested therein and must be received by the BACB no later than 5:00 p.m. MST on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
